The bad news is that most people, who start a fitness program, will eventually stop soon. Are they bored, weak or undisciplined? Yes and no. Of course, some people are not able to stick to a schedule, but the majority has not this kind of problem. They just have still not found the type of exercise that is ideal for them. The key to make fitness an important part of your life is to do something that makes you happy. Have you ever considered what type of workout suits you best? By answering these questions, you can find the ideal type for you.
Lose weight or build muscles?
If you want to lose weight, there is a plethora of things you can do. Cardio activities, such as power walking, jogging, cycling and swimming, are very good options, but some sports, such as tennis, handball or basketball, can be powerful too. On the other hand, if you want to gain weight and strengthen your muscles, there is no other option than lifting weights.
Can you spend much time?
If you can spend only half an hour 2-3 times per week, the only choice you have is to do a cardio activity, by which you can burn many calories and stay fit. 1-2 hours running or swimming per week is enough to see your body change and feel the benefits of fitness. If you want to have variety, you have to spend more time in the gym or the court. 1-2 hours 3-4 times per week tennis or basket, 1 hour 4-5 times per week Pilates or power yoga or 7-8 hours per week walking.
Are you a team player or a lone rider?
Exercising should be the time during the day, when we make a gift to our self. That means we have to do whatever makes us feel relax and joyful. If being alone, lost in your own world, is your favourite thing to do, running, walking or cycling can offer you moments of being in great contact with yourself, listening to music or thinking about what worries you. On the other hand, team sports are ideal for those, who want to meet new people, make new friends, have competition and interact with other athletes.
Is it your first time?
If you are a beginner, it is better to start with something easy in order for your body to get used to that and for you not to be disappointed. Do you want to lose weight? Start with the cardio activity of walking and not running, it is more likely that you can find the discipline you want. Contrariwise, if you have tried many sports and exercises, it is wise to try something totally new that you won’t find boring. Hot yoga, zumba, trx, aikido or even pole dance are only some of the numerous workout types you can find interesting.
